American Pyrotechnics Association (APA)

The APA is the premier trade association of the fireworks industry. The APA was founded in 1948 with three principle aims:

  • To encourage safety in the design and use of all types of fireworks.
  • To provide industry information and support to our members.
  • To promote responsible regulation of the fireworks industry.

American Fireworks Standards Laboratory (AFSL)

NCI is a member of the American Fireworks Standards Laboratory (AFSL), an independent, non-profit corporation established in 1989 by members of the fireworks industry to: develop voluntary quality and safety standards, work with manufacturers to improve safety and quality, provide a testing program, provide testing certification, and support the efforts of groups promoting the safe use of consumer fireworks.

AFSL operates the China Fireworks Quality Improvement Program. This is a testing program administered by an independent, internationally recognized testing laboratory whereby the fireworks products are tested at the factory level in China before being shipped to the United States. Those products that pass the AFSL factory-level testing are then certified and shipped to the United States

National Fireworks Association (NFA)

The National Fireworks Association is an organization composed of individuals and companies dedicated to the safe use of fireworks. Current membership stands at over 3,500. Members are from all walks of life, and range from people with just a passing interest all the way up to hard-core fireworks enthusiasts. Formed in 1992 through the foresight of President Emeritus Cam Starr, the NFA goal is to to protect the rights of individuals and companies to utilize and enjoy fireworks. We represent individuals and industry to the various Federal and State agencies which regulate fireworks. Safety is a key concern. We hold a seat on the NFPA Committee for pyrotechnics and ensure that reasonable regulations to protect those that utilize fireworks allow the freedom to pursue the pyrotechnic art.

Pyrotechnic Guild International, Inc (PGI)

The Pyrotechnics Guild International, Inc., founded in 1969, is an independent worldwide nonprofit organization of amateur and professional fireworks enthusiasts.

Its educational and scientific purposes are to:

  • Promote the safe and responsible display and use of pyrotechnics and fireworks.
  • Encourage the display of public and private fireworks in conjunction with local and national holidays as well as patriotic and other events.
  • Promote the production and sale of high quality fireworks.
  • Channel the creative energies of talented people into the design, production and display of high quality fireworks by example of the membership and through the sharing of knowledge.

Indiana Fireworks Users Association (IFUA)

The Indiana Fireworks User's Association is an organization that handles all your fireworks questions regarding what you need to do in order to sell fireworks in Indiana and what you need to get started. If you have specific questions as to how much it costs, what permits do I need, what is the deadline to file for a Retail Merchant Certificate, and anything else relating to the setup of selling fireworks please contact Executive Director, Steven Graves at the following:

Wisconsin Fireworks Association (WFA)

The WFA is an organization which lobbies Wisconsin's government in defense of the people's rights to legally use fireworks. They do not currently have a web site but may be reached by mailing the address: 105 Dearborn St. Beloit, WI 53511-6441.



Kentucky Fireworks Association (KFA)

The Kentucky Fireworks Association is an organization which lobbies Kentucky's government in defence of the people's rights to legally use fireworks. They do not currently have a web site.
